Glossary of playing
carpet bowls


Bowl
Bowls come in two basic colours, Brown and Black.

Carpet
The playing area, between 6 feet and 6 feet 6 inches wide and is between 30 feet to 33 feet long.

Centre Block
An obstruction which is 18 inches (45cms) wide & 2 inches(5cms) high and blocks the direct path to the jack.

Jack
A ball, white in colour and 2.5in. in diameter.

Skips
This refers to the team captain who is generally chosen by lot.

Stickers
Stuck onto the bowl to identify it, from the other bowls.

Umpire
Angmering Bowls Club do not normally have an umpire.

Wood
Another name for a Bowl.
