Glossary of playing
carpet bowls
- Bowl
- Bowls come in two basic colours, Brown and Black.
- Carpet
- The playing area, between 6 feet and 6 feet 6 inches wide and is between
30 feet to 33 feet long.
- Centre Block
- An obstruction which is 18 inches (45cms) wide & 2 inches(5cms) high and blocks the direct path
to the jack.
- Jack
- A ball, white in colour and 2.5in. in diameter.
- Skips
- This refers to the team captain who is generally chosen by lot.
- Stickers
- Stuck onto the bowl to identify it, from the other bowls.
- Umpire
- Angmering Bowls Club do not normally have an umpire.
- Wood
- Another name for a Bowl.
